18 Game Regular Season?

By Rudy Haynesworth on August 27, 2010

"I make the rules"

On Wendseday NFL owners met to discuss the potetnial of an 18 game NFL regular season.  Currently there are 16 regular season games played by each time with four preseason games.  It is widely believed that any change would involve getting rid of two preseason games and playing the two additional official games.

There are plenty of obstacles in implementing this rules change.  NFL fans would love it, but word is players are worried they wouldn’t be compensated for the additional ticket revenues the owners bring in.  Any vote would have to get the OK by the players union, especially with the current NFL unrest between owners and players.  You also have weather concerns the later into the winter you play or you don’t want to start the season in late summer.  With all the discussion of the amount of games played changed and the owners meeting about it, it’s not a question of if but when.
