1st round picks 11-14: Vikings shockingly select FSU’s QB Ponder

By Dominique Wise on April 29, 2011

11. Houston Texans select DE/DT J.J. Watt:

Analysis:  Watt is an every-down player who has a great motor. Watt hustles until the whistle blows. I think he fits great into the Texans 3-4 scheme.

Time to show Vikings fans that you aren't a reach!

12. Vikings select  Florida State’s QB Christian Ponder:

Analysis: Most NFL scouts and fans believe this pick is the biggest reach in the first round. I beg to differ, in fact I believe Ponder has all the tools to be the best quarterback in this year’s draft class. If it wasn’t for Ponder injuring his elbow which caused him to miss some games last season I guarantee he would of been a top 5 or 10 pick. Ponder is smart and accurate. He is mentally tough as well. He also has great vision. Great move by the Vikings.

13. Lions select Auburn’s DT Nick Fairley:

Analysis: Ok so here’s the Lions thinking on this pick, we dare any team to run the ball up the middle on us. We have arguably and which could be the best two DT’s (Suh and now Fairley)  in the NFL for the next ten years. Good luck RB’s Adrian Peterson, Ryan Grant and Matt Forte trying to get 100 yards rushing against the Lions.

14. Rams select North Carolina DE Robert Quinn:

Analysis: Coach Spags of the Rams is all about defense and getting pressure on the quarterback. Good pick by the Rams to get a quality edge rusher.
