America’s Teams?

By Rudy Haynesworth on August 30, 2010

Super Bowl or Bust

So, I know it’s the preseason but Dallas and Pittsburgh fans have to be disturbed by what they’ve seen.  The offensive line plays by both teams are huge concerns leading up to the regular season openers.  Also with Roethlisberger missing at least four games for the Steelers to begin the season, second year player Dennis Dixon is going to have to lead he team in his absence.

Last night, Dallas really struggled offensively against the Houston Texans.  Dallas’ first team line struggled to protect Toni Romo as he lost two fumbles and threw an interception.  The Texans defensive line looked like the Giants when they had Jason Strahan.  The Texans went on to win the game 23-7

Pittsburgh looked about the same as the Denver Broncos had two pick-6s by the hands of Dixon and Batch.    Denver defensive backs were constantly jumping the routes and were able to easily read the telegraphed throws of Dennis Dixon as he threw two interceptions in the Steeler loss.

The Cowboys are considered by many to be Super Bowl favorites.  Their foundation is the power running game led by Marion Barber and Felix Jones.  But, against the Texans the two combined for 4 yards on 7 carries.  After a season ending injury to starting right tackle Willie Colon, the Steelers needed to call on ex-Cowboy 12 year vet Flozell Adams to fill the spot.  He had two consecutive false start penalties in the Broncos game and led the league in false starts last season.

The Steelers and Cowboys have some serious questions to answer before the games start counting.  Pittsburgh did have a bright spot in the loss to the Broncos.  Sixth Round pick Jonathon Dwyer did have 89 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown (I called that one).   But, I wouldn’t worry about either of them, one of these teams will probably end up winning the Super Bowl this year.

Starter by Default Dennis Dixon
