Breaking News: Eagles Release RB Brian Westbrook

By Dominique Wise on February 23, 2010

"It's Been A Good Run"

Doesn’t it seem like we are already in the month of June, because  another prominent NFL player gets release. The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with running back Briant Westbrook. Westbrook was drafted in the 3rd round out of Villanova. During his playing career with the Eagles, Westbrook made the Pro Bowl twice in 2004 and 2007. A lot of NFL teams were hesitant in drafting Westbrook because of his small frame. Westbrook is listed at 5′8 and weighs in at 200 pounds.

Westbrook had a brilliant career with the Eagles. In 2007, Westbrook rushed for a career high 1,333 yards and his 2,104 yards from scrimmage led the NFL.  During the 2007 season Westbrook set the franchise record in receptions with 90.

In 2008 Westbrook  signed a  five-year, $32 million extension with the Eagles. After signing his new contract, Westbrook production diminished because of concussions and leg injuries.  A severe concussion caused Westbrook to miss most of the 2009 season.
