Browns at #7

By Rudy Haynesworth on February 23, 2010

WHERE DO WE NEED HELP MOST?

Okay Browns fans, who do you think we should get with the number 7 pick in the draft?  The Browns’ needs are glaring and obvious.  The LB position was helped in the short term down the stretch last season with the additions of Matt Roth and Jason Trusnik.  But, beside D’Qwell Jackson and Kamerion Wimbley there are no penciled in starters for the LB spot.  Eric Barton was injured for most of the year and both he and David Bowens are aging.  The corner spot requires two players.  So, as much as I like Brandon McDonald I still recognize that he would be a good nickle back.  Eric Wright is a solid corner, but it is about time that the Browns get their next Anthony Henry or Leigh Bodden (and keep him).  The Safety position is in shambles.  Mike Adams provides some aspect of depth to the defensive backfield, but he is extremely undersized at safety.  Brodney Pool and  Abram Elam are solid, but we need a defensive leader to emerge at the safety position.

Does anyone know if we have any true DEs on our roster?  Kenyon Coleman was quiet this season and Corey Williams, I still believe, would be better at DT.  We have to pursue getting a rush end that is capable of getting double digit sacks.  This position will be even more important if we move to a 3-4 (which it doesn’t appear we will with retaining Rob Ryan as DC).

The offense doesn’t have any less holes.  The Qb position is a mess.  Of course, you can only go as far as your starting QB takes you in the NFL.  Brady Quinn and former Baltimore 6th round draft pick Derek Anderson will just take their coach to the unemployment line.  I like Massaquoi at WR.  But, he lead the team along with Harrison with only 34 receptions on the season.  That is goog for a number 4 WR.  We need playmakers.  We wil also have to adress the TE and RT positions on the line throughout the draft.

I could keep going and mention the RB position, but you get the point.  Plus, I am excited to see what James Davis and practice squad surprise Chris Jennings will do.  There are a lot of holes, but Browns fans I need to know what position you think we need to address most in the draft.  (Not just who will be the 1st round pick, but where we need help at the most in the upcoming 2010 draft).
