Chicago Bears Offseason Checklist: Number 1. WR and a shutdown corner is needed

By Dominique Wise on March 6, 2011

Jay Cutler needs a number 1. receiver bad!

Things the Bears need to do this summer:

1. Go get a true number 1 receiver Chicago, please! Devin Hester and Johnny Knox are slot guys and number 2 receivers at best. T.O. would help but maybe a trade for Panthers Steve Smith or Sidney Rice would take this team to the Super Bowl next year.

2. Retool the offensive line. This line was horrible all year, but did play a little bit better towards the e of the season. Former first round T/G Chris Williams has been a bust and can’t stay healthy for a full season. C Olin Kruetz is solid but aging and is pushing near 40 years old. The Bears need a true LT and RT.

3. Find the next Tommie Harris in the NFL Draft or free agency. The Bears defense was solid last season, but their DT play was spotty at best. Former Bears DT Tommie Harris was released due to injuries, inconsistent play and a huge contract. But Harris’s first few years with the Bears he was dominant and made plays. Anthony Adams, Henry Melton, and Matt Toeaina have played decent but they just provide good depth.

4. Draft and start grooming a replacement for aging MLB Brian Urlacher. Urlacher is coming off one of his best seasons. But he is aging and his speed declining. He made some good plays last season and also missed a lot of tackles due to his declining speed.

5. Go sign or trade for Nnamdi Asomugha. Adding Asomugha would make this one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Bears already have a good front seven but their back end is where weakness occur. I have never been a fan of Charles Tillman and still feel he is an over-rater. I am sure a lot of Bears fans would agree with me. Get Asmougha and ship Tillman out of town or maybe move him to FS.

Nnamdi in the Windy City next year? Would be a great move for Da Bears!
