Two coaches met an end to their seasons early today. Tony Sparano and Todd Haley were both fired from their below .500 teams. Haley’s Chiefs were 5-8 after making the playoffs last season. This season they’d lost their starting quarterback, running back, and safety. Sparano lost his starting QB Chad Henne early in the season as well, but he had been on borrowed time.
So, after a 26-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14, the inevitable finally happened. There were some encouraging signs for the Dolphins like the running of Reggie Bush and the play of Matt Moore, but this team clearly lacked direction (beside that to the bottom of the AFC East). So, Sparano is finally out even though the Dolphins had won four of their last 6.
Now the Kansas City move came somewhat as a surprise. Haley had issues with injuries this season and also had his team rally with a four game winning streak at one point. But, after a 37-10 blowout loss to the Jets the coach who was praised last year is looking for work. Former Browns head coach Romeo Crennel will take over as coach and he may turn the interim position into his own.
There have been three coaches that got “DROPPED OFF” so far this year with DelRio getting the pink slip on November 29th from the Jaguars. I think it is safe to say there will be more.
