Cuts

By Rudy Haynesworth on February 28, 2011

**I'm Out**

A few teams were busy today releasing players.  The biggest name to be released was probably Clinton Portis.  Last year, for the Redskins, he only ran for 227 yards in 5 games.  The Jets and the Bears were even more active dropping players off as they combined to get rid of 7 mostly high profiled guys.  The Bears parted ways with LB Hunter Hillenmeyer, DT Tommie Harris, and OT Kevin Schaffer.  The Jets got rid of OLB Jason Taylor, DT Kris Jenkins, OG Damien Woody, and OLB Vernon Gholston.

Tommie Harris was a Pro Bowl defensive tackle for the Bears.  Jason Taylor also was a former Pro Bowler who had 5 sacks last year.  Woody also made it to a Pro Bowl with the Jets.  Vernon Gholston was a bust for the Jets who never recorded a sack.  Kris Jenkins was a four time Pro Bowler, who missed all but one game last season for the Jets.  Kevin Schaffer is a journeyman offensive lineman and Hilleneyer was primarily a backup in Chicago that filled in well when Urlacher and Briggs were injured in 2009.

There will be plenty more cuts left to come, so stay tuned….
