By now Bengals and Raiders fans know Carson Palmer is going to Oakland. This does give the Raiders a starting quarterback who is a former overall number 1 pick in the 2003 NFL draft. But, Oakland fans are you comfortable with the fact that your team is giving up potentially two first round picks in the next two years? The Raiders don’t have a pick in the first four rounds of the draft. Plus, Palmer did force his way out of Cincinnati and hasn’t played at all this year.
The Raiders are 4-2, coming off a 24-17 win over Cleveland where Jason Campbell left the game with an injured shoulder. Kyle Boller was Campbell’s backup and completed eight of his fourteen passes for 100 yards. But, Carson Palmer (like Boller) has seen a decline in his skills. Last season with Cincinnati Palmer threw 26 TDs with 20 ints. The Raiders play the 2-3 Chiefs on Sunday. It will be interesting to see how soon Palmer is asked to start. Raiders coach Hugh Jackson called this trade the greatest in football.
I thought Jerome Harrison already played for Philadelphia. That’s right after being traded by the Browns to the Eagles for Mike Bell, last season, Harrison ended up in Detroit. Now, Harrison is headed back to the Eagles for former Dolphin running back Ronnie Brown. So far this season, Brown has only 13 carries for 38 yards. With Jahvid Best having concussion issues and Mikel Leshoure already out for the season, Brown might be called upon to carry the ball much more. The Eagles also got an undisclosed draft pick along with Harrison.
The Rams are not looking good this season at 0-5. But, they did make a trade with Denver for a 5th or 6th round pick in next years draft. Lloyd had a career high 77 receptions for Denver last season. He has also played for the 49ers, Redskins, and Bears.
Bengals fans have to be happy with the trade of Palmer. Not only did they get two first round picks, they also were able to get rid of a player that didn’t want to be there. Like Oakland, Cincinnati is 4-2 and rookie Andy Dalton is playing well as the starter. The Raiders fans insist the trade is because this team is ready to win now. But, is Palmer ready to perform now? After the playoff knee injury and his elbow surgery which Palmer is Oakland going to get? Will the acquisition of Palmer by Oakland ever justify two 1st round picks?
