Raider nation fans are wondering and asking why why why, did CB Stanford Routt have to sign with the Chiefs. The answer is real simple its called “revenge”. Routt is still furious that the Raiders released him after giving him a huge extension last year. The Raiders also made it clear last year that they wanted Routt to be their number one cover corner for years to come. But Routt’s play last season was suspect. He struggled being the Raiders number one cover corner as opposing offenses went at him constantly. Routt had 18 penalties against him and gave up 8 plus touchdowns.

So what do the Raiders do now? Well Chiefs CB Brandon Carr will is a free agent and now with the signing of Routt the Chiefs will probably release Carr who had a better 2011 season than Routt. The Raiders should target Carr and sign him. If the Raiders sign Carr he is an immediate upgrade over Routt.

Randy Moss played in the NFL for 13 years. He started his career with the Vikings and retired after the 2010 season playing for the Tennessee Titans. Moss has been one of the greatest receivers in NFL history. His 23 receiving TDs in 2007 are still an NFL record. Moss came out of retirement today on his 35th birthday.

Let’s be honest, Moss finnished off his career on a bad note. He played for the Patriots, Vinkings, and Titans in 2010. He only had 28 receptions. He averaged over 73 receptions per season throughout his career.

There will be many teams that are interested in Moss’ services. His old team the Patriots would be a good fit. The Jets, Bears, and Redskins could all use a 6′4″ receiver that still runs a 4.3. Plaxico Burress’ success would almost be a similar player to consider as to why teams in the league will give Moss another look. Moss is still capable of over 30 receptions, but his head and heart have to be in the game.

OLB Anthony Spencer

CB Cortland Finnegan

CB Carlos Rogers

FS Dashon Goldson

The Solutions:

You know who will be the happiest man in the desert, take a guess? Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald would be one happy camper if the Cardinals went out and signed All-Pro QB Peyton Manning. Manning is a huge upgrade over Kevin Kolb and John “Halloween” Skelton. Imagine the kind of numbers Fitzgerald and Manning would put up. Manning is a once in lifetime talent that hardly comes around and when 100% healthy he is one of the NFL’s top 5 QB’s.

WR DeSean Jackson would be a great signing for the Cardinals. The tandem of Jackson and Fitzgearald would be reminiscent of the Anquan Boldin/Fitzgerald days. But the lethal combination of Fitzgerald and Jackson would be more explosive. Jackson is a home run hitter. If the Cardinals sign Jackson then he would be the Cardinals number two receiver with Earl Doucet moving to the slot and Andre Roberts being the number four receiver.

The signing of G Carl Nicks would give the Cardinals one of the NFL’s best guard tandems with him and Daryn Colledge. Nicks would immediately strengthen a weak RG spot. G Deuce Lutui is solid but has trouble keeping his weight down. This will probably be Lutui’s last year in Arizona or he probably will be released before the 2012 season starts if he doesn’t want to be a backup.

The Cardinals need to beef up their defensive line with some quality talent. DT Dan Williams has been decent not great. I think the Cardinals need to sign DT Red Bryant from the Seahawks. For one he would upgrade the DT position and his signing would weaken the Seahawks, the Cardinals in division rivals. Bryant is very talented, he can play the run, rush the passer, and block kicks.

To me the Cardinals biggest weakness is the CB position. I know i know Rookie Patrick Peterson had a good year but it was mostly at the special teams position. There were some games were Peterson excelled at the CB position and some games were he struggled and played like a rookie. I believe Peterson will eventually be a solid pro CB, but for the time being the Cardinals need a solid veteran CB who can cover and has solid ball skills.

I think the Cardinals need to sign CB Carlos Rogers if he is available or Cortland Finnegan. Finnegan is more physical than Rogers, but Rogers makes more plays on the football as evident this past season where Rogers had a career best 6 interceptions. Richard Marshall was solid last season for the Cardinals and the Cardinals will probably bring him back. Marshall would move to nickel if the Cardinals signed Rogers or Finnegan.

If the 49ers sign Jackson then Crabtree would be the number two receiver with Morgan being the slot receiver. I like that offensive package.

G Carl Nicks would be an immediate upgrade over guards Adam Synder and Chilo Rachal. Rachal has struggled and could be cut this year. Synder is decent at best. Nicks is the best guard in the NFL and would open up major holes for 49ers RB Frank Gore.

The 49ers must resign CB Carlos Rogers who had six interceptions last season. Rogers made plays all over the field and was the 49ers best cover corner.

CB Brent Grimes would be a great off-season signing for the 49ers if they lose CB Carlos Rogers. Grimes is a tough/physical undersized cover corner who excels in press man. Imagine if the 49ers sign both Rogers and Grimes, what a tandem for the next couple of years.

The 49ers need a S who excels in coverage and has solid ball skills. I think S Michael Griffin would be an upgrade over the inconsistent Dashon Goldson. Goldson struggled mightily last season in coverage.

Hey Oakland, guess what? There is a new sheriff in town and he is about to clean house. I don’t blame new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie one bit for cutting players with huge contracts who have seriously underperformed this past season. Raiders late owner Al Davis gave out huge contracts to players who are decent but not great players like LB Kamerion Wimbley and CB Stanford Routt.

Routt had a solid season in 2010 because he was playing opposite of Pro Bowl CB Nmandi Asmougha. Routt was facing majority of opposing teams No. 2 WR’s. But after the Raiders decided to let Asmougha walk they made and paid Routt like a No. 1 corner. Routt was signed last off-season to a three-year, $31.5 million contract extension that at the time made him the third highest cornerback in the NFL. Now lets be serious, Routt is not a true shutdown corner or is deserving to be paid like a No. 1 corner. Routt is a No. 2 corner at best. This past season he struggled and played inconsistently and led the team in penalties with 17.

Expect more cuts to come as the Raiders try to open up some cap space and bring in solid football players, not a bunch of over-raters!

The Jets failed to make the playoffs in 2011. Having went to the AFC Championship two seasons in a row, this was considered a disappointment. But, look at the bright side the Colts went 2-14.

Mark Sanchez is an easy scapegoat for the cause of the Jets 8-8 record with an 0-3 finale. When things go well head coach Rex Ryan’s bravado is viewed as innovative, but when the team struggles his job is discussed as being on the line. Veterans like Santonio Holmes, Bart Scott, and Plaxico Burress will have to step up their game to get this team back to where it needs to be.

OFFENSE: It’s easy to point the finger at Mark Sanchez. But, he is not the one that made this the 22nd overall run defense in the league. This team was predicated under a good defense and strong running game. But, its leading rusher barely had 1000 yards and Greene and LT combined for only 7TDs. This team needs a running back.

Veteran running backs are had to evsluate. Tomlinson could have one season left or he might retire. The Jets need a starting young running back with an early round draft pick.

The same can be said for the wide receiver position. Santonio Holmes and Burress may not be the best examples as far as character, but on the field they could have a positive impact on a rookie wideout. The 21st overall passing offense was led by its tight end Dustin Keller in receptions with 65. O-Line depth would help, as only center and left tackle are solidified positions.

DEFENSE: The Jets need pass rushers. The Jets front seven is a no name cast outside of linebacker Scott. The safety position is not much better.

The D-Line is abysimmal. Only rookie Muhammad Wilkerson had more than a sack. The Jets need to draft another OLB/ DE in the first two rounds. They need a guy who can get after the quarterback and potentially provide double digit sacks.

Eric Smith is solid at free safety, but has been injury prone late in the season. But, Brodney Pool needs to get dropped off. Don’t get me wrong, he is not a bad player but lacks ability to make plays (especially against run). This team needs another playmaker in that defensive secondary.

NEEDS: So, the Jets need safety, running back, wide receiver, and defensive end. Quinton Coples anyone? He is the type of pro prospect pass rusher that can make plays for a strong Jets defense. He is one of the top pass rushers in this draft coming out of North Carolina.

Michael Floyd at wide receiver and Washington running back Chris Polk are guys that come to mind that would be good fits for the Jets. Floyd out of Notre Dame will be an absolute steal for any team that drafts him after the 20th overall pick. Polk would give this Jets team additional depth at the running back position.

The Targets:

RB Cedric Benson

RB Michael Bush

WR Dwayne Bowe

WR Vincent Jackson

T Demetrius Bell

T Jared Gaither

LB LeRoy Hill

LB Stephen Tulloch

LB Mario Williams

CB Brandon Carr

CB Aaron Ross

CB Brent Grimes

CB Cortland Finnegan

The Solutions:

Michael Bush would be an excellent pickup for the Lions running game. He runs tough and is the power back that the Lions need.

The addition of WR Dwayne Bowe would make the Lions the most dangerous offense in the NFL. Bowe and Megatron Johnson would be the most dangerous and feared WR duo in the NFL. Plus I feel that WR Nate Burleson is strictly a slot receiver and is not a number two receiver. Imagine the Lions receiving core with Johnson, Bowe, Burleson and Young.

T Jared Gaither is usually a Rt but is versatile to play both tackle positions. He is still young but will be an upgrade over ancient tackle Jeff Backus who struggled mightily in 2011.

The Lions need to resign LB Stephen Tulloch to a long term deal. Tulloch led the Lions with a 111 tackles. He is a tackling machine.

CB Brent Grimes is the best cover corner on the free agent market and if the Lions signed him he would be their best cover corner.

Super Bowl MVP:

All I can say and the rest of America feel free to join in and say, ”I believe in you Eli”. It’s official QB Eli Manning is an NFL elite quarterback. This 2011 season showed that Eli Manning should be considered as one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. Manning was named Super Bowl XLII MVP. Manning was 30/40 for 296 yards passing along with a touchdown. Eli was elite in the fourth quarter of this game but his 39 yard throw to WR Mario Manningham will always be remember as one of the greatest Super Bowl throws. Manning fit the ball nicely into double coverage but what was more spectacular was the catch by Manningham.

Gotta Give Love To The Giants Defense:

The Giants defense was solid in Super Bowl XLII. The Giants played a bend but don’t break defense in which they held the high octane Patriots offense to 17 points. DE Justin Tuck was phenomenal with two sacks and numerous QB hurries on QB Tom Brady. Brady was great at times and also struggled under the Giants rush at times as well. Brady was also let down by his receivers who also had key crucial drops. The Giants defense held Brady to 6.7 yards per attempt.

Football fans, this Sunday is our favorite day of the year as Super Bowl XLVI takes place. This Super Bowl featuring the New York Giants and the New England Patriots should be a classic round two matchup. The Patriots are favored by 3 points in this game. But bookmakers and die hard gamblettes are drooling over this matchup because the Giants are the underdogs and are the hottest team. Fans know I am a die hard Giants fan and I can’t root against my team. I just believe the Giants are the better team.

What scares me about this game as a Giants fan is that we are playing against Tom Brady and his two unbelievable TE’s. I don’t need to say their name because just saying their names scares me. I can so see Brady and his tow TE’s sets tearing up the Giants all game. Because we all know the Giants weakness is covering TE’s, especially those that can run, catch and make yards after the catch. But what I like about the Giants in this game is their balance. I look for them to be balance in this game by mixing up the run and the pass. Look for QB Eli Manning and his trio of receivers to be very effective and exploit an average at best Patriots secondary. The Giants need to stay balance and keep Brady and co. off the field.

The Giants pass rush will be able to put enough pressure on Brady and force him into making some bad throws which will eventually lead into some turnovers. I look for Bradshaw to have a big game in rushing and catching. Bradshaw didn’t play in the matchup between the Giants and Patriots earlier in the season, but will be ready to contribute this Sunday.

My Prediction: Giants 31-27
