I’ve been a football fan for a long time and it wasn’t too long ago that I really started to appreciate and respect the game of football, what I appreciated more was the dedication and discipline that professional football players encountered game after game after game. In that being said, Thursday, September 8, 2011 kick off @ 8:30 PM was the best opening night football game I have ever saw, it was almost as exciting as watching a Super Bowl. What a way to start a game with the Packers being the first team to score 21 points within the first quarter of week one since the 2008 Falcons vs. Lions game (They out there making football history).
The Packers started off strong defeating the Saint’s 42-34; Packer fans will defiantly be eating more cheese after that win. Let’s start with the winners; QB Aaron Rogers was looking so calm and collective on the field throwing free style touchdowns, Rogers outrageous 14 of 15 passes completed for 188 yards and three touchdowns through one-and-a-half quarters of play. Rookie Randall Cobb ties NFL record with 108-yard KR for TD in 3rd quarter, he also ended Thursday’s night game with 2 receptions for 35 yards a TD, 135 return yards and a single touchdown.
Although LB Clay Matthews won’t be playing in week 2 game vs the Cardinals because of that hamstring problem (Ken Doll) big-game threat “The Claymaker” had 4 tackles and 1 solo. We can always expect more out of Matthews but that collide in with S Nick Collins took him out of his element. WR Greg Jennings who scored the first touchdown of the game had seven catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Although the Saint’s lost they still put up a good fight; QB Drew (my team practiced all during the lock-out) Brees passed for 419 yards and 3 TD. RB Mark Ingram had 13 carries for 40 yards, not a good start for the Rookie but he did show poise and promise. He has plenty of more chances to prove his endurance, starting in week 2 against the Chicago Bears. LB Johnathan Casillas played primary rusher and was able to penetrate the Packers’ D-line all night longggg…ouch! Darren Sproles had 7 passes for 75 yards, 36-yard reception, a 72-yard Punt return and a 57-yard kickoff return.
The play of the Saints secondary Negative: S Roman Harper (Is it me or does he look like an older grey haired Reggie Bush, lol?) seemed very anxious from what he told the RFT crew @ his summer golfing party in Alabama this summer about being ready for the season but from what I saw opening night, it look like golfing might need to be his new sport, especially when he gave up that long touchdown pass to rookie Randall Cobb, WTH?!?!?!?

I love the game but I still have to bring the drama…49ers WR Braylon Edwards fined $50,000 for violating NFL substance abuse policy, with no suspension, he pleaded guilty to a DUI incident that happened in July. What is going on with Braylon, this man cannot stay out of trouble. This dude finished with 904 yards and a 17.1 yards-per-catch average last season.
What personal issues is Braylon going through, if you look at his past record it involves a couple of DUI’s, bad attitudes on and off the field, public fight’s with obvious frustration and why is it that every time he does get into a public fight his entourage is there to assist, he can sure start a fight but he can’t finish it… I mean the list can probably go on this guy needs an intervention. He cannot stay out of trouble.
On the latest T.O. show (Move to Miami) he confided into Kita and Mo that he was broke, he stated he has no money and no income coming in and on top of that child support is cracking that neck, T.O. has told the world he is paying out more then he’s not even making. Some of that is probably true I mean he even dropped a tear over that, (poor baby so sensitive) but I don’t fully believe him. I’m sure VH1 is paying you a little something and yet somehow you can afford to keep that lovely house or was it town home you are living in. When people say they are broke, really broke you see peeps making immediate moves like selling their personal items and getting rid of stuff; T.O. was chilling after that tear drop, just a thought.
Enjoy your weekend RFT fans!
