Former LSU Safety Injured in Car Accident

By Rudy Haynesworth on June 26, 2010

"I'll be right back coach"

Former LSU star safety Chad Jones was seriously injured Friday morning.  He was the 3rd Round selection of the New York Giants (76th Overall) just 2 months ago in the draft.  But, after returning home to Louisiana his SUV hit a pole yesterday morning and his NFL career could be over before it ever starts.

Jones exceled as a two sport athelete in college staring as a pitcher and an outfielder for the baseball team.  He was drafted by both the Houston Astros in 2007 and the  Tigers in 2009.  In 2007, as a true freshman, he also won a National Championship in football playing in all 14 games.

His brother Rahim Alem was a rookie DE for the Bengals last season.  Two weeks after Jones had signed his rookie contract with the Giants he was involved in the one car accident that lead him to be rushed to hospitals suffering a serious leg and ankle injury.  Giants head Coach Tom Coughlin said about Jone’s performance in OTAs,

“I think right at the end of the OTAs he was starting to emerge and doing things very well on special teams and in the secondary.”

RFT is wishing Chad Jones a quick recovery.
