Free agency begins: Jags sign MLB Paul Posluszny, Skins sign DT Cofield

Free agency news update:

Redskins: Signed former New York Giants stud DT Barry Cofield to a six deal. (This hurts the Giants, but strengthens the Redskins defensive line).  Santana Moss resigned with the Redskins.

Jaguars: Signed former Bills MLB Paul Posluszny to a six year deal. (Posluszny signing means Kirk Morrison will probably not be back, great move by the Jags to get a tackling machine)

Cardinals: Signed former Panthers TE Jeff King. (King is solid, not great, decent hands, but has little speed)

Chargers: Sign former 49ers MLB Takeo Spikes. (Spikes can still play at an effective high level)  WR Vincent Jackson signs his franchise tag.

Cowboys: Released veterans WR Roy Williams, RB Marion Barber and LG Leonard Davis. The moves would save roughly $17 million on this year’s salary cap. (Barber’s time had run its course, he was solid not great, Williams was a bust and Davis played underachieved)

Giants: Released O-linemen Shaun O’ Hara, Rich Seubert, and Shawn Andrews. All the moves put the Giants closer to getting under the salary cap.

Packers: Packers announced that MLB Nick Barnett will be released. (Packers are loaded at the LB position)

Panthers: Re-signed DE Charles Johnson to long term $72 million dollar contract. (What in the @#$%)

Patriots: All-Pro G Logan Mankins signed his franchise tender.

Raiders: Signed former Florida first rounder DE Jarvis Moss. (New scenery might help save Moss’s NFL career)

Rams: Signed former Eagles S Quintin Mikell to a four year deal. (Mikell had 3 interceptions and 88 tackles last season)

Ravens: Re-signed G Marshall Yanda and released TE Todd Heap, WR Derrick Mason, RB Willis McGahee, and DT Kelly Gregg. (Bottom line here is the Ravens are trying to get younger at key positions)

Seahawks: Signed former Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson. (Why, all he does is run around like he is at recess)

Steelers: Re-signed CB Ike Taylor

Vikings: Are close to a deal with QB Donovan McNabb, stay tuned!
