The Jaguars acquired OG Justin Smiley in a trade with the Dolphins on Monday for a late round draft pick. In 2008, the Dolphins signed Smiley to a five-year, $25 million contract. Smiley’s career as of late has been plagued by inconsistent play and injuries, but he is good blocker when healthy. This is a good trade for the Jaguars as they need more quality depth on the offensive line. Last season Jaguars quarterback David Garrard was sacked 44 times and hit far more than any quarterback in the league (126).
Also Monday the Dolphins signed versatile OL Cory Procter who can either play guard or center. Procter played the last five seasons for the Cowboys.
Also Monday the Saints signed FB Jason McKie to a one year deal. McKie played the last nine years for the Bears. The signing of McKie adds as an insurance policy for starting FB Heath Evans, who is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL.
