Lockout 101

By Rudy Haynesworth on June 25, 2011

We have reached the 101st day of the NFL lockout, as of June 24th.  One thing is for sure, there is progress being made on all fronts when it comes to seeing an end end to the work stoppage.  There are still quite a few things up in the air, though.

It seems that as far as the revenue sharing, both players and owners are content with the proposed 48% of revenue that would go the players way.  When agreed upon, the CBA doesn’t look like it will bring about an 18 game season (at least not at first).  They have agreed that will be left open to further consideration.

Improved benefits for retired players looks like it will be going the players way, as well as a rookie wage scale.  Players will become unrestricted free agents after four years of playing in the NFL.  The owners may drag this thing out, even further, on issues like the salary cap and garaunteed cash (which is proposed to be about 90% of player contracts now).

One thing that is unfortunate for sports fans is that you may experience a feeling of deja vu.  The NBA’s CBA is set to expire on July 1st.  So, if you hadn’t got enough of the feuding between players and ownership- just stay tuned.
