McNabb Waived by Vikings

By Rudy Haynesworth on December 1, 2011

**Gettin' Blown Out Again"

Donovan McNabb was waived today by the Minnesota Vikings.  This comes after being benched for rookie first round draft pick Christian Ponder.  McNabb is the only player that started three consecutive seasons for three different teams opening day.

McNabb was the second overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft.  He played 11 seasons in Philadelphia and led them to 4 straight NFC championship games.  He also took them to Super Bowl XXXIX where they lost to the Patriots.   He is the Eagles all time leader in pass TDs, completions, and wins.  He has had a great career, but his low point came when he was traded within the division to the Redsinks where in 2010 he threw more interceptions (15) than touchdowns (14).

One of the reasons the Vikings released McNabb was so he could have an opportunity to play elsewhere.  I don’t know if anyone would want to claim McNabb off waivers because of his declining skills.  But, don’t forget about the injuries plaguing the Texans, Chiefs, and Bears.  McNabb is also from Chicago and with the news of  Cutler most likely missing the rest of the year, this seems to be the most likely destination.
