Adrian Peterson missed a weekend long minicamp camp June 11-13th in Minnesota. He instead chose to attend an annual day in his honor in Texas celebrating his athletic achievements. It was a weekend long practice session that was Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Viking’s coach Brad Childress commented on the subject. He said,
“This is the fourth Annual Adrian Peterson Day. I don’t know if they’re going to be every year. But, we’re going to have this too.”
This refers to the minicamp that another notable Viking wasn’t in attendance at either. Brett Favre has yet to announce whether he will return to the team to play the 2010 season. But, he did play last season for Minnesota after beginning his 1st season with the team partially through the pre-season. Favre had a great year for the Vikings posting 33 TDs with a 107 QB rating. Childress has yet to urge Favre to attend so-called mandatory practices and continues to look like he is in support of the franchise waiting for the 40 year-old QBs return.
There are some other interesting factors. Favre has almost played 2 decades and Peterson is going in to his 4th NFL season. Peterson had 7 fumbles and Favre had a modest 11 ints last year. These are areas that both players would have an opportunity to improve on in the offseason workouts. As far as Favre being in attendance as supposed to Peterson Childress has commented that,
“I don’t think Adrian is batting around retirement in his mind. It’s a special set of circumstances.”
