No Certainities for NFL Coaches

By Rudy Haynesworth on January 28, 2011

**Great Coaches Aren't Easy to Find**

Jeff Fisher was fired as head coach of the Tennessee Titans yesterday.  He was the longest tenured head coach in the NFL, having taken over as interim coach for the team in 1994 with six games left in the season.  Fisher finnished off with 142 wins and 120 losses as the Titans head coach and had a 5-6 record in the playoffs.

In the 1999 season Fisher led his team quarterbacked by the late Steve McNair all the way to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Rams 23-16.  That was the same year as the Music City Miracle game against Buffalo.  Fisher always kept the Titans competitive, but it may have been his handling of former first round pick quarterback Vince Young (also rumored to not be returning to Tennessee) and strained relationship with owner Bud Adams that ultimately led to his demise as head coach.

Fisher was drafted as a defensive back for the Bears and won a Super Bowl with the team.  He was the coach of Tennessee for 17 years and will always be remembered as that and respected for the job he did.  Even though there are no head coaching vacancies available, after all he uncertainty with the labor agreement this upcoming season Fisher will have no problem finding another coaching job.
