Player Profile Series: Hakeem Nicks

By Dominique Wise on January 20, 2011

Look for Nicks to be a top 5 WR in the NFL next year!

The Facts:  Hakeem Nicks is an emerging young WR for the New York Football Giants. Nicks was drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Nicks played college football at North Carolina where he set 14 school records. The most notable records are career receptions (181), career receiving yards (2,580) and career touchdowns (21). Nicks also set the UNC single-season receiving yardage record and became the Tar Heels first 1,000-yard receiver.

Positives:   Nicks has great hands and catches almost everything thrown his way. He also excels at route-running. Nicks rookie season was solid as he posted 47 catches for 790 yards with a 16.8 average per catch. Nicks also had 6 touchdowns his rookie season. Nicks had a breakout 2010 season having 79 receptions for 1,052 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 13 games.

Negatives:   The only negatives with Nicks is that he sometimes struggles with route-running as was displayed this past season. Nicks and his quarterback Eli Manning weren’t on the same page in many games this season which led to Manning having 31 turnovers. If Manning and Nicks can work on being on the same page next season then this duo can be one of the best tandems in the NFL.
