R.I.P. Colts legend John Mackey

By Dominique Wise on July 7, 2011

RIP Big John

Former Baltmore Colts player and Hall of Famer John Mackey,  passed away Thursday after a long battle with dementia. Mackey is one of the all time best TE in NFL history. During his 10-season career Mackey caught 331 passes for 5,236 yards and 38 touchdowns. Mackey played for the Colts from 1963-1971 and later played for the San Diego Chargers in 1972.

In closing I remember hearing stories about Big John Mackey when I was a kid from my father. He told me that Big John revolutionized the TE position and paved the way for other TE greats such as Ozzie Newsome, Tony Gonzalez, and others. On July 7, 2011 the NFL morns a legend. R.I.P. Big John Mackey, wish I had the chance to see you play!
