Dave Duerson played for the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Phoenix Cardinals from 1983- 1993. He was a member of the Super Bowl winning 1985 Bears as well as the 1990 New York Giants. He went to college at Notre Dame and was a four time Pro Bowl selection. He set a record in 1986 for most sacks by a defensive back in a single season, with 7, later broken by Adrian Wilson.
Duerson’s life tragically ended on February 17, by an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound. Prior to his death, Duerson asked that his brain be donated to Boston University to be studied for CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). It is a condition that is believed to be caused by constant head trauma, the kind that can come from contact in the NFL. Is there any wonder why the NFL wants to crackdown on hits to the helmet with fines ans suspension?
