There has been so much speculation going on that new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie would hire Winston Moss of the Green Bay Packers to be their new head coach, but that wasn’t the case in this hiring process. McKenzie felt Broncos DC Dennis Allen was the right fit for the Raiders. Allen is 39 years old and is the youngest head coach in the NFL. But many NFL executives believed that Allen was destined to be a NFL head coach in a year or two.
Allen has just one year of coordinator experience and is the first Raiders head coach who is a defensive specialist since Al Davis hired a 32-year-old John Madden in 1969. Broncos players have stated that Allen is one heck of a leader and has a bright defensive mind.
The Raiders need a strong minded defensive coach who doesn’t put up with foolishness such as silly fouls and bone headed always getting offsides mistakes. I believe Allen will right the ship in Oakland but he has a lot of work cut out for him.
