Teams with off-season work to do: Philadelphia Eagles post draft edition

By Dominique Wise on May 16, 2011

Welcome to Philly, Michael Vick is excited to have you as he is geting tired of running for his life behind the Eagles aging offensive line!

Draft Recap:

The Eagles had 11 picks in this year’s NFL Draft. They drafted well this year and went for needs. Their first round pick was 26 year old G Danny Watkins. He plays with a nasty mean streak and is very durable. I loved their second round pick of S Jaiquawn Jarrett from Temple. He is a ball hawking safety that can hit and is a sure tackler. I believe fourth-round pick Casey Matthews will be an exceptional player. He might have the ideal NFL size but he is a quality play-maker that rarely takes a play off.

Work left to do:

The Eagles had a good draft and their draft selections will add quality depth at key positions. The work that is left to do is to get a shutdown corner and an OLB that can make plays. The Eagles corner spot opposite Asante Samuel is a major weak spot as teams constantly went at Ellis Hobbs and Joselio Hanson. Nnamdi Asomugha is the name that continues to surface with this team. If the Eagles can get Asomugha they will be in contention to make it to next year’s Super Bowl. Can you imagine the tandem of Asomugha and Asante Samuel? I can’t and don’t want to see Asomugha in an Eagles uniform next season.

OLB is also a major weak spot. The team did sign former Bengal Rashad Jeanty. Jeanty hasn’t played in a couple of years, so his play is still in question. Ernie Sims didn’t make enough plays on the field in his first year as a starter. He didn’t even com close to 100 tackles and had a low two sacks on the season. I think Leroy Hill would be a good pick up if the Seahawks release him.
