The autocrat activist on and off the field.

Nnamdi Asomugha

Nnamdi Asomugha is an American born Nigerian who is the highest paid cornerback in the NFL history signing a 2 year 28.5 million dollar contract with the Oakland Raiders in 2009, but that’s not the only history Asomugha is making.  Asomugha has an impeccable list of credentials on and off the field.

Asomugha was second round pick, 31st overall by the Oakland Raiders in 2003.  2005 he had 60 tackles and 55 solo’s, 2006 he finished the season with 50 tackles, 48 solo’s and 8 interceptions, 2007 the Raiders selected Asomugha team captain and he finished that season with 34 tackles, 32 solo’s and 1 interception.  In 2008 Asomugha was again selected team captain, chosen as the pro football writer’s association all-NFL teams, finishing with 40 tackles and 1 interception.  Asomugha received the co-most valuable player and was selected as a starter for the 2009 pro bowl.

Asomugha’s football credentials can go on…I really want RFT fan’s to know about Asomugha’s humanity beyond the NFL.  Nnamdi whose name biblically means, “My father lives” serves as chairman for two programs with the Asomugha foundation.  One is called, “Orphans and Widows In Need foundation (OWIN)” and the second is called “Asomugha College Tour for Scholars program (ACTS).”

The OWIN foundation assists women and children who are most vulnerable on the continent of Africa. OWIN provides women with skills they can use to better support their families and provides children with educational resources vital to a successful future.  The ACTS program which is an annual college tour and mentoring program that provides high-achieving high school minority’s the opportunity to visit college campuses across the country.   Asomugha’s tours have been featured in CNN and the NFL network.

Asomugha joined former President Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative to discuss the importance of global service and student activism.  Asomugha also distributes backpacks to the incoming freshman each year at Narbonne High School located in Los Angeles.  He also outfit’s the football and Basketball team with shoes a contract he mandated with Nike.

Asomugha has countless awards, achievements, and his contributions in community service are outstanding, I mean wow, is there nothing this man does not do?  You know it takes a special heart to want to help others in need and Asomugha has proven that, “yeah, I am the highest paid CB in the history of the NFL but the money is worth nothing if you don’t have something you love and care about to share it with!”  A he he ha ha, just a little Mahogany there for ya!
