Ohio University has established that starter defensive lineman Marcellis Williamson, 23, died on Wednesday afternoon (death unknown) after a visit to a Cleveland-area hospital near his hometown. Williamson who was working towards his fifth year at OU started every game (26 games the last two seasons) the past two seasons with 84 total tackles and 10 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-1, 327-pound senior who was admitted to the hospital earlier that Wednesday morning was discharged the same day of death.
Some of Williamson’s friends and teammates posted on twitter later that night around 10 stating he died of a heart attack, but no one from the university or the hospital have confirmed his cause of death.
Williamson’s last post on his Facebook page Tuesday afternoon stated: “I am blessed to have waken up this morning!! Enjoy today because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed!!“ This story is such a mystery; you’re here this morning and gone this afternoon, life is beyond short. No one has the last say so but God, from his Facebook comment he obviously knew the lord, let’s pray this young man is resting in God’s hands and special prayers from RFT to the family of Marcellis Williamson.
