The Truth’s Corner: Weekly Updated News

By Dominique Wise on October 12, 2011

It's Tebow time!

Derrick Mason:

WR Derrick Mason was traded from the Jets to the Houston Texans for a seventh round draft pick.  Good move for the Texans who really don’t have an establish number 2 receiver. Mason maybe 37 years old but can still play at a high level and is a solid route runner. The Jets released Mason because of his recent outbursts about the Jets offense and the Jets offensive coordinator. Mason disagreed with the direction of where the Jets offense was going. This trade was a win win for both teams. The Texans get a polished receiver and the Jets get rid of a headache.

Marcus Bernard:

Browns DE Marcus Benard was charged Tuesday with reckless operation and driving under suspension after a motorcycle accident Monday. According to the police report, Benard, who suffered a broken hand, was thrown 241 feet. See this is what I don’t understand, NFL teams need to have a clause in these players contracts that state that players shouldn’t be allowed to ride motorcycles during the season. This is round two of another Browns player who has been injured in a motorcycle incident. Browns fans remember the Kellen Winslow incident a few years ago.

Giants DT Jimmy Kennedy Suspended 4 Games:

Giants DT Jimmy Kennedy was suspended by the NFL on Tuesday for four games beginning immediately for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. My question is why? Does a former first round bust really need to take steroids to increase more playing time? Who knows, but better who cares. Kennedy only has four tackles in five games this season.

Chargers Sign LB Gerald Hayes:

The Chargers signed LB Gerald Hayes and placed MLB Stephen Cooper on injured reserve (biceps). Hayes played eight seasons with the Cardinals and played in only six games, due to injury. He recorded 33 tackles.

49ers Sign WR Brett Swain:

The signing of Swain, a seventh-rounder in 2008, had six catches for 72 yards last season adds quality depth to a WR position that is already missing WR Josh Morgan who recently broke his ankle and WR Braylon Edwards is still recovering from surgery.

NFL Reinstates Buccaneers S Tanard Jackson:

On Tuesday the NFL reinstated Buccaneers S Tanard Jackson from his year long suspension. The Bucs will have two weeks to activate him to the 53-man roster. Jackson, afourth-round pick in 2007, has started all 46 games he has played. He has 29 career passes defensed and eight interceptions. Jackson is a solid all around safety who can hit and cover. The Bucs defense needs his playmaking ability.

Patriots Re-sign TE Dan Gronkowski:

The Patriots brought back TE Dan Gronkowski, Rob’s brother, to the 53-man roster. Gronkowski adds depth to an already loaded TE position.

Tim Tebow is the Broncos New Starting QB:

This is an interesting dumb move. I don’t like the move because I don’t think Tebow is an upgrade over Kyle Orton. Tebow has a lot of deficiencies in his game. He mainly struggles with accuracy and the last time I check to be a good NFL quarterback you have to be accurate. Tebow might win you a couple of games this year but that’s it.
