Week 2 Preview

By Rudy Haynesworth on September 17, 2011

The Good Old Days

1. KC at Det Sun 1:00-  Kansas City must rebound from a poor offensive performance last weekend against Buffalo. Cassell only threw a little over a hundred yards and Jamal Charles didn’t get the ball enough. Detroit passing game with a healthy Stafford is hard to stop. Safety Eric Berry is out for the season in the Chiefs secondary.

2. Oak at Buf Sun 1:00-  The Raider’s Darren McFadden and Michael Bush have given the Raiders a strong running game. Fred Jackson for Buffalo had over 100 yards rushing in the Bills opening game 41-7 dismantling of KC. Fitzpatrick threw for 4 Tds last week and the Raiders do have an unproven secondary.

3. TB at Min Sun 1:00-  Donavon McNabb struggled last week with less than 50 yards passing. While Josh Freeman looked good in a losing effort. LeGarrette Blount must help the Bucs running game to control the time of possession. The play of the Bucs front 7 will be another key in this game.

4. Chi at NO Sun 1:00-  It looks like Urlacher will play after the death of his mother earlier this week. Drew Brees will look to avoid letting his Saints start off 0-2. If the Bears defense has a weakness, it would have to be the secondary. But, the Bears did well against an explosive Falcons passing game in Week 1. Jay Cutler would love for Forte and Roy Williams to have big games.

5. Bal at Ten Sun 1:00-  Baltimore forced 7 turnovers against the Steelers and won 35-7. If Tennessee wants any chance in this one Chris Johnson needs to get the ball early and often. He is Tennessee’s best (only) weapon. Baltimore on the other hand is great at stopping the run, so the Titans would also need mistake free football from Hasselbeck

6. Cle at Ind Sun 1:00-  Both of these teams played below expectations in their openers. Hillis and Hardesty are really going to need to set the tone against the Colts defense. Collins will start again for the Colts, but he had multiple turnovers against the Texans. The Browns young defense is capable of pressuring the quarterback, so Collins watch out!

7. Jax at NYJ Sun 1:00-  The Jaguars beat the Titans 14-12 with McCown as their quarterback. The Jags will be lucky to score 14 against the Jets defense.

8. Sea at Pitt Sun 1:00-  If Seattle thought SF looked good, they’d better prepare for an angry Steelers defense. Seattle has weapons (like Sidney Rice who didn’t play last week), but this team is full of holes. The Steelers fans would be in uproar if the team started 0-2. This is a perfect example of what happens when a west coast team plays a 1:00 EST game.

9. Ari at Wsh Sun 1:00-  The Redskins beat the Giants. What makes you think they can’t handle the Cardinals? The Redskins secondary against Kevin Kolb is a good matchup. Also Hall vs. Fitzgerald. Tim Hightower will look to make Arizona regret getting rid of him.

10. GB at Car Sun 1:00-  I am going to make a prediction….. Cam Newton will not throw for 400 yards. But, he will have a good game along with the Panthers run game. But, the Packers will go there and light up the score board like pinball. Look for Aaron Rodgers to throw for 350 yards and 4 Tds.

11. Dal at SF Sun 4:05-  The 49ers could be 2-0 with Dallas 0-2. Everyone knows Tony Romo needs to play mistake free football and playmaker Dez Bryant is a difference maker. But, if Frank Gore plays and has an impact in this game Dallas may be in trouble. This is a classic matchup

12. SD at NE Sun 4:15-  This may be the matchup of the day. Which offense will take over and establish dominance. Brady threw for 500+ yards last week. Philip Rivers wants to get his Chargers off to a better start this season than last. He did throw for 335 yards edging Minnesota last weekend.

13. Hou at Mia Sun 4:15-  Houston dominated the Colts without Manning. Miami does have a quality quarterback in Henne. The Texans also have a good running game with Foster. The Dolphins are waiting to see what they get with Bush. Who will take over Johnson or Marshall? Two of the best receivers in the league will help determine a winner here.

14. Cin at Den Sun 4:15-  This will be a good game. Rememeber Brandon Stokely’s last second TD in the season opener last year? Dalton and Orton are starting. Denver has a lot of injuries like Moreno and Biley. Cincinnati would suprise everyone by going 2-0.

15. Phi at Atl Sun 8:20-  Ex-Falcon starting QB Michael Vick goes back to the city that drafted him number 1 overall. Vick still owes them money and Matt Ryan vs Michael Vick is the obvious comparison. Michael Turner and LeSean McCoy are two good running backs that will make an impact in this game as well.

16. StL at NYG Mon 8:30-  Both teams are 0-1. The Giants had a disappointing loss to Washington and the Rams were beaten badly by the Eagles. Bradford will most likely start and Jackson is questionable. All signs pointing to New York.
