Welcome home former New York Giant receiver Plaxico Burress who was released from prison after nearly serving two years on a gun charge. “I just want to thank God for bringing me through one of the most trying times in my life,” said a rejoiceful Burress. I am happy for Burress to be out of prision and to get a fresh start.
Burress did say that he wants to resume his NFL career. Burress said, “I’d like to thank all my fans all around the world for the thousands of letters, for their unwavering support. As far as football is concerned, if and when everything gets settled, when they get back on the field, I’ll be ready.” But will he? Burress will be 34 years old in August and hasn’t played since 2008. A three year layoff is a long time for any NFL veteran. But Burress is physically gifted and is a big possession receiver and shouldn’t have a problem catching on with an NFL team. ”We are going to be open to all 32 teams,” said Burress’s agent Drew Rosenhaus. “Ultimately this will be Plax’s decision, not mine. I am here to help him pick the best spot and get the very best contract. And that is what we will do.”
I think some good landing spots for Burress are the New England Patriots who definitely need a big physical receiver, the Raiders who just need a vetran receiver, the Eagles who need quality depth at the receiver position, and the Rams who need a big play physical veteran receiver.
