Former NFL Jerry Porter once had a promising NFL career until injuries and inconsistency led to his egress from the NFL. Porter was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of West Virginia. Porter’s best season with the Raiders was in 2004 where he had 64 receptions for 998 yards with a 15.6 average and 9 touchdowns. Porter also had a solid 2005 season in which he caught 76 receptions for 942 yards and 5 touchdowns. In 2006 Porter had an altercation with former Raiders head coach Art Shell which led to him missing majority of the 2006 season.
In 2008 Porter signed with the Jaguars to a ridiculous six year contract that was worth $30 million dollars. He barely played due to a nagging hamsring injury which limited him to playing in 6 games where he posted 11 catches for 181 yards. After one season the Jaguars felt Porter wasn’t a good fit for their organization and decided to release him after one year.
Now Porter who is 32 years old, is heading heading north of the border to join the Montreal Alouettes. This past week Porter signed a two-year contract.
