Who is Michael Jerome Oher?

By Alisha Boykin on April 28, 2010

**The Tuohy family**

Who is Michael Jerome Oher, where did he come from, and who is he?  If you haven’t already, please see the movie “The Blind Side” which breaks down the real life story of Michael Oher. Oher’s story, which I’m sure a lot of people can relate to, is remarkable!

First let me tell you who he is, Michael Jerome Oher was born Michael Jerome Williams Jr. who is an OT (Offensive Tackle) for the Baltimore Ravens. Oher was first round pick of the 2009 NFL draft. Oher is a 2009 University of Mississippi graduate, while playing football in college Oher was selected for the AP All American First Team; he made the honor roll his freshman and sophomore year, and graduated with a degree in criminal justice.

If you read his book (The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Author Michael Lewis) or saw his movie (The Blind Side) then you already know Oher had it hard growing up with being one of twelve children, having a mother addicted to cocaine since her pregnancy with Oher, in and out of foster homes before he was sixteen, constantly being repeated in grade school’s, dealing with the pains of his father being murdered, living partially homeless, and the list goes on…

The point of that explanation is, no matter what circumstances or obstacles God put’s you through (and it may not seem true going through), but he will never put on more then you can handle. God is of free will, you have to believe…it’s a little something called “Faith.” Oh yes, Oher’s life was rough, a lot of people could not survive a life like that, and I’m sure a lot of people couldn’t imagine living life like that.

I don’t know if Oher is a Christian and maybe he does or does not know about God (and I hope not to offend any one), but from what I believe, the God I know will keep you until he is ready for you and only by choice (among other actions) he will continue to keep u there after. God kept Michael, he not only kept, he protected, and he brought angels into his life so he will continue to be kept.

Oh, no I am not going to preach; but I am going to tell you, although it may not seem like it is, but, I think there is more good then bad. The Tuohy family took a stranger (Michael Oher) in like he was one of there own and what is so touching about that is color or size was not an issue. It takes courage to accept and a heart to love. Being loved gives you the grace to heal no matter how hard life is or has been.

Michael not only is a gifted football player but he has a gift no one can ever replace and that’s the gift of love honey, lol! Again, if you have seen the Blind Side than you can taste the love I mentioned in this blog, if you have not seen it, please do, so you can get a taste!
